Admin Title Check

Admin Title Check shows whether the title has already been used while adding or editing a post, page, or custom post type.

The title check happens when typing in a title in the post add/edit pages. Published (including privately) posts, pages, and custom post types with exact, or similar titles, will be displayed beneath the title. This helps prevent duplicate titles and aides in crafting new titles by finding similar ones.

The primary purpose of the plugin is to avoid duplicate titles. There is no easy method for knowing whether the current title has already been used when adding a post. It is possible to check the slug after saving a post as a “-2” is appended to the posts’ slug if the posts’ permalink already exists. However, this is not an ideal way to tell if titles have been duplicated since permalink structures vary and sometimes stop words can be omitted from the slug. This plugin avoids that uncertainty and has the added benefit of showing similar titles.
